Wajid Shamsul Hasan, former high commissioner (HC) of Pakistan to the UK, died in London on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Wajid’s son Zulfiqar Hasan confirmed the news of the death of his father.

Wajid remained Pakistan’s envoy in the UK during the Pakistan Peoples Party’s last government (2008-2013).

Meanwhile, expressing deep sorrow over the death of Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that he was saddened and so were other party members and leaders.

“With the death of Wajid today, Pakistan has lost a patriot,” Bilawal said, and added, “Truth of the matter is that he was not only PPP’s, but the entire nation’s ‘asset’. He had rendered invaluable services for journalism and democracy. May Allah (The Almighty) rest the departed soul in eternal peace.”

PPP Co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari, in his condolence message, has said that late Wajid was a journalist and a diplomat.

“His father Nawab Shamsul Hasan had remained Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s associate for 40 years. He was also Bhutto family’s great friend,” he said in his message.
